In 2025, we launched Almahdi Platform (V1) a platform connecting Egyptian high school students with their teachers’ content online. Real students. Real subscriptions. Real market.

We did not theorize about what Egyptian students needed. We built something, charged real money, attracted real users, and operated inside the market. That is where our story begins.

What We Found After Operating in the Market

After working directly with students and teachers on V1, we discovered something that no market report could have told us:

Every student on every platform including ours receives the exact same passive content, regardless of their individual weaknesses.

A student who struggles with grammar gets the same video as a student who excels at it.
A student who wastes two hours watching the same lecture gets no feedback on why they did not understand it.
A student who fails an exam gets no intelligent analysis of what went wrong.

There is no intelligence in the loop. No adaptation. No feedback. Just videos.

This is not a content problem. Every teacher in Egypt has content. This is a personalization problem and no existing platform is solving it.

We also discovered a second problem that nobody talks about: distraction. Egyptian students live in the age of social media. TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp compete for every minute of study time. A platform that only offers videos gives students no reason to stay focused. We understand this personally — we are students ourselves

V1 What We Built to Enter the Market:

• AI-powered weakness detection: the system identifies exactly what each student does not understand, based on their exam results and quiz performance
• Gemini Vision exam analysis: teachers upload a photo of a corrected exam paper Gemini reads the student’s answers, categorizes mistakes by topic, and writes the results directly into the student’s profile automatically
• RAG-powered personalized content: using Retrieval-Augmented Generation, the platform embeds Egyptian curriculum content into a vector database and injects the most relevant material into every AI interaction
• Adaptive learning paths: instead of showing every student the same videos, V2 builds a unique learning path for each student based on their actual weak points
• Everything in one place: students have no reason to leave the platform quizzes, AI feedback, personalized content, and progress tracking are all inside one system, reducing the distraction of switching between apps and social media

The Technology

The Technology Behind V2

We have completed the full architectural design before writing a single line of production code. Every decision is made for a reason:

Vertex AI + Gemini 2.5 Flash All AI inference runs through Vertex AI. We chose Gemini specifically because it is the only model that can read and interpret handwritten Arabic exam papers at a cost structure a bootstrapped Egyptian startup can sustain. Egyptian students write in Arabic. This is non-negotiable.

Cloud SQL with pgvector Our RAG architecture embeds Egyptian curriculum content and lecture transcripts into a PostgreSQL vector database using the pgvector extension. This eliminates the need for a separate vector database, reducing cost and complexity at our current scale.

Cloud Run Our backend API and AI inference pipelines run on Cloud Run for serverless, auto-scaling execution. Student platforms have variable load usage spikes heavily around exam seasons. Cloud Run handles this without us paying for idle capacity.

Prompt Caching Implemented from day one to keep inference costs manageable before we have the revenue to absorb full API costs at scale.

We hold the Gemini Enterprise Agent Ready (GEAR) certification. We have completed the database schema (15 tables), the full feature roadmap, and the AI integration architecture. We are not experimenting we are building.

Why We Are the Right Team for This

Mahmoud Technical Co-Founder

I am a mechanical engineering student in Egypt. I use AI tools every single day to navigate one of the most technically demanding curricula in the country with severely limited Arabic resources and almost no personalized guidance.

I am not theorizing about what Egyptian students struggle with. I am living a harder version of the same problem right now.

I graduated from high school fewer than two years ago. I remember every frustration the passive lectures, the lack of feedback, the hours wasted re-watching videos without understanding why the material was not sticking, the constant pull of social media competing for every minute of study time. I am experiencing a more intense version of those same challenges today, studying engineering with even fewer resources.

I built V1 not as a theoretical exercise, but as a direct response to watching students on my own platform receive nothing more than the same videos their teacher shows them in class. I operated that platform. I handled real subscriptions. I worked with real students. I identified the gap that AI can fill not from above the market, but from inside it

My co-founder manages in-person student recruitment, teacher relationships, and payment operations. He is the reason V1 has real users he built those relationships on the ground, in person, with real families.

Together, we cover the two functions a startup needs most at this stage: build and sell. One of us builds the product. The other builds the market.
